HERE’S A LOOK AT THE FIRST MEETING

 

THE HISTORY OF FL 1

 

CIRCA 1975:

 

“Tiny” Scales is sent by GPD to Bangor Maine on a “prison chaser” job. “Tiny” Scales brings back the idea for a Blue Knights Chapter.

 

The organizational meeting of Florida 1 of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, Inc. was called to order at 7:20 PM Saturday, September 27th, 1975 by Tiny Scales, Acting Chairman, at the home of Charles Jempson. The purpose of the meeting was to adopt a set of By-Laws and elect officers. There were seven members present.

 

Tiny Scales read the by-laws he had written using the National By-Laws as a guide.  Danny Crowe made a motion to accept the By-Laws as written, seconded by Charles Hooker.  Motion passed.

 

An application for membership by Robert K. Griffin was accepted.

 

The floor was open for nominations of officers.

 

Larry Snyder and Charles Hooker were nominated for president.  Larry Snyder was elected.

 

Charles Hooker and John Mills were nominated for Vice President.  Charles Hooker was elected.

 

Tiny Scales was nominated for Secretary.  No other nominations were made and Tiny Scales was elected.

 

John Mills and Charles Kersey were nominated for Treasurer.  John Mills was elected.

 

Charles Jempson, William Bryan, Danny Crowe, Bob Griffin and Charles Kersey were nominated for the 3 positions on the Board of Directors.  Charles Jempson, Bob Griffin and Charles Kersey were elected.

 

The next order of business was setting chapter dues.  The Secretary stated that the International would collect $1 per member each year.  After discussion a motion was made by President Larry Snyder and seconded by Vice President Charles Hooker that the dues be set at $1 per month, or $12 per year for the membership, with a 30 day grace period.  Motion passed.  The Secretary collected dues from the members present.  The question of an auxiliary was brought up by Larry Snyder.  The Secretary will write the international and see what can be done.

 

The next meeting of the Chapter will be on October 3rd, 1975 at 7:30 PM at Charles Jempson’s house.

 

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM
